Lucretia

I made a film at the National Film Board titled "Lucretia", back in the day when animation was cell painted. The Dr. Suess style poem was penned by journalist Peter Desbaras as a Christmas story of a she-devil desperate to find out what Christmas is all about. It feels like yesterday, when I would sit in my small room, lit by light from an animation disc and animate till it would blind me. I had a great crew of artists helping out with the rendering of the characters (thanks Errol).

As I update "Lou" in photoshop, it has stirred up some memories. I don't have many cels of the film, some were given away as Christmas cards to bureaucrats. When the boxes were plundered for images I got the complaint that it was really hard to find NICE pictures to turn into cards because my drawings don't read well as stills, but seem better to work when projected one after another on screeen. Isn't that what animation is?

The image here is very iconic and card worthy... may I suggest you stick the bat on her chest and have her stand on the top of a building with the moon behind her?

I remember seeing your film a long time ago at a party at Steve and Yvonne's in Verdun circa 1987. That was a great short film, is it part of the NFB library?

Hugs to all for your comments and interest in my film. The National Film Board has made both my films available in DVD and are sold through their website for something like 12 Canadian bucks. Otherwise, I hear they show 'Lucretia' on Air Canada during the silly season.

date i'd of thought you put this up for Halloween!

Dude! You have a great style! I was wondering if you ever have done a Darth Vader? I am creating a tribute book to George Lucas called "100 Ways to the Darkside" where I am having 100 hand picked artist create Darth Vader. I would love one for the book in your style. Please let me know if your interested!

Thanks a million

Reminded myself I first saw this clever film via LaserDisc as it was released alongside other NFB films as part of a Christmas compilation that was released by Lumivision here in the US. I thought your film was rather unique and unusual approach to a Christmas story as I had ever saw.
